The FAB FOUR - Reds: The Four International Red Grape Varieties – Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah
Each of the four classes will focus on one variety, with classic examples from the prime regions from which that variety comes. We will taste, discuss, and identify the unique qualities of each variety. We will learn how the same variety can be made in different styles, and what the winemaker does to achieve that style. We will do comparison tastings, using other varieties to help us better identify each variety’s unique qualities. Along with a clarification of varietal tastes, flavors, and textures, we will discuss the food pairing opportunities each offers.
Graduates of this class will have a better understanding of
- the qualities of Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah;
- the principal styles in which they are made;
- the regions from which they come;
- the foods with which they pair; and their own preferences with respect to these four varieties.
Dates: four Mondays: May 4, 11, 18, 25.
Fee: $315; $285 for WWS graduates and those in groups of two or more persons.
