PREMIUM BORDEAUX WINES

A One-Evening Event
With Eight Extraordinary Wines
Accompanied by French Bread & Fine Cheeses

1995 Lafite Rothschild      Pauillac
One of, if not the premier Chateau of Bordeaux, Lafite produces world renown wines. Among the thousands of wines tasted in 2007 by wine journalists Brecher and Gaiter of the Wall St. Journal, the 1995 Lafite was one of only 14 given their highest rating, “Delicious!”                                                     (WS 96)

2003 Pavie Decesse          St. Emillion
This vineyard’s limestone plateau was one of the most favored terroirs in the scorching heat and drought of 2003. The Chateau is owned by Gérard Perse who also owns Pavie and Monbusquet. A controversial figure, Perse scandalized St. Emilion traditionalists by making opulent, lavish wines loaded with sweet, toasty oak. As for this wine, Parker calls it “a brilliant wine.”                            (RP 96)

2004 L’Evangile                  Pomerol
Located between Chateau Petrus and Chateau Cheval Blanc, L’Evangile is regarded as one of the finest estates in Bordeaux. A blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, this wine  is described as a stunning example of the 2004 vintage and one that will drink beautifully young.                            (W&S 96)

1998 La Mission Haut Brion  Pessac-Leognan, Graves
In Wine Report 2008, La Mission Haut Brion is listed as one the 10 “greatest wine producers” of Bordeaux (and the only one of the 10 owned by an American, Clarence Dillon). The 1998 is full-bodied, fine, and harmonious, and rated “classic: a great wine”.                                                                   (WS 95)

1994 Leoville-Las Cases     St. Julien
A “super-second” deuxieme cru classe, located 10 feet from Latour’s finest vineyard, Leoville-Las Cases’ 1994 was rated by Parker as, “one of the half-dozen great wines of the Medoc in 1994, an opaque, purple-colored wine (that) exhibits fabulous richness and volume in the mouth, with layers of pure black-cherry and cassis fruit …intermixed with stony, mineral-like scents, as well as high quality toasty oak.”                                                                                                       (RP 93)

1996 Montrose                    St. Estephe
Another “super-second” deuxieme cru classe, Montrose is gifted with one of the finest vineyard sites in the Medoc.  A revised classification might even rank it among Bordeaux’s first growths. This wine is described by James Suckling as having, “beautiful aromas of crushed berries and vanilla, with hints of licorice with sweet fruit and silky tannins. Long and caressing.”                                  (WS 92)

2004 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc Pessac-Leognan
Smith Haut Lafitte produces one of the finest white wines of Pessac-Leognan, the center of Bordeaux’s high quality white wine production. It combines a delicious array of honey, pineapple, and caramel flavors with a rich, balanced texture.                                                                                 (RP94)

2004 Pavillon Blanc du Chateau Margaux
Chateau Margaux’s Pavillon Blanc comes from a vineyard planted with 100% Sauvignon Blanc vines. It is fermented in oak barrels and bottled after 10 months of cask aging. Parker calls Pavillon Blanc simply “the Medoc’s finest white wine, crisp, fruity, subtly herbaceous, and oaky.”                       (RP 93)
