Overview of Wine Courses

World of Wine Course

This course offers an enjoyable, clearly marked, journey through the delightful, sometimes baffling, world of wine.

In six weekly sessions we will immerse ourselves in the principal grape varieties and wine regions of the world. Novices to certified wine lovers will gain a better understanding of the many varieties and styles of wine, and of the principle wine growing regions of the world, as well as develop personal skills for

  • tasting and describing wine
  • matching wine with food
  • selecting wines in restaurants and wine shops
  • storing and serving wine with ease.

Each session features 8 to 10 wines and favors a relaxed, informative, and interactive style of learning. Click the Course Descriptions tab above for more information about the World of Wine Course.

While dress is casual, your hosts dress up for awarding certificates at the last class.

European and New World Wine Courses

Each evening is an exploration of the different wines and “terroirs” of one of the world’s most important wine-growing countries.

Eight to ten wines are served at each class and every student receives a notebook of useful maps, graphs, and text.  An interactive, educational environment assures that each student gets a full taste of a country’s wines, its history and “terroirs”, its classic food and wine pairings, the standards according to which its wines are normally assessed, and where it stands among the other great wine-producing countries of the world.

The Four International Red Varieties Course will focus on one variety each class, tasting examples from the principal regional sources of each variety, discussing each grape’s unique characteristics, and using blind tasting comparisons with the other major varieties to experience and to learn to identify these unique characteristics.
